Welcome to the Real Recreation Therapist Blog!

The Real Recreation Therapist Blog is a labor of love and learning. The intention is creating a place where Recreation Therapists–and all others in a position of caring–can realize and reaffirm the healing, transformative powers of recreation in the lives of those who need it most.

The Real Recreation Therapist Blog is focused on creating discussions on various subjects related to recreation as a process to heal and rehabilitate where therapists, caregivers, and family members could share thoughts, ideas, experiences and camaraderie in a supportive environment.

The Real Recreation Therapist is by no means an assertion that any other Recreation Therapists are less real. It is simply a play on words where the acronym is TRRT–most Recreation Therapists should get it.

Bio:

Kevin Gruzewski, CTRS, has practiced Recreation Therapy for almost two decades. A bulk of his experience has been working with high needs adults with developmental disabilities and at-risk adolescent males with substance abuse issues. Kevin witnessed countless instances when the power of positive recreation helped transform someone’s life–even if they were just meaningful teaching moments. He hopes to use his other passion, writing, as a platform to share with new and seasoned Recreation Therapists (and any other person in caregiver role) useful information he picked up along the way as well as current health and wellness trends. In his leisure time, Kevin enjoys running and fitness, meditating, habitat restoration, cooking, reading, listening and playing music, tooling around in the garden, chasing his toddler son around, and walking his beagle.

Please feel free to contact me with comments and concerns, topics you would like to see, or any other opportunities for sharing and collaborating.

I appreciate you taking time to check out this blog and hope it is helpful.

For the record: My desk isn’t always as messy as the picture suggests.
